The Miss Douglas County Scholarship Program (MDCSP) is a local preliminary to the Miss Oregon Scholarship Program and the Miss America Opportunity.
The MDCSP holds an annual competition each year and awards an average of $20,000 in scholarships to women in Douglas County. One portion of these scholarships are earned through the Build Your Own Scholarship Program, which allows all candidates to fundraise for their personal scholarship fund and walk away with money for college regardless of the outcome of the competition. Another portion of these scholarships are earned through competing onstage at the annual competition.
In addition to scholarships, each candidate is competing for the coveted opportunity to serve as a brand ambassador for the Miss Douglas County Scholarship Program for the next year. The winners of Miss Douglas County and Miss Douglas County’s Teen will have the opportunity to go on to compete for the role of Miss Oregon or Miss Oregon’s Teen at the state competition. If they were to win at the state competition, they would go on to compete at the Miss America or Miss America’s Teen competitions.
To determine each candidate’s aptitude for scholarships and the role of a brand ambassador, all candidates will compete in five categories of competition. Each category is worth a portion of their overall score. A panel of vetted judges will score each category of competition and the auditors will carefully tabulate the total scores to determine the outcome of the competition.
Below is a breakdown of each category of competition. Additional details and guidance are provided to candidates after they have registered to participate in an annual competition. Leading up to each competition, the MDCSP hosts an immersive mentorship program that focuses on preparing all candidates for the competition and providing invaluable opportunities for personal and professional development. Other benefits of the program include meeting like-minded women, making lifelong friends, building confidence, and connecting with your community through service.
